Layering with Unstructured Blazers

If you haven’t tried an unstructured blazer, I highly recommend adding this piece to your wardrobe.

It’s history stems back to when an Italian tailor removed the stiff canvas and shoulder paddings from the jacket and let the shape fall over the body naturally creating a lightweight jacket perfect for layering in comfort.

Unstructured Wool Blazer for Warmth and Style

By removing the business from the coat, you are open to dress it in any direction you want.

Casual Cool Layering, Sans Structure

We love it paired with a check or striped button down dress shirt.

Unstructured and Untucked

The unstructured blazer has a casual cool vibe to it so taking it into the warmer months, a polo or even a soft tee works beautifully beneath.

Jeans work too!

Most Dapperly Dressed Men 2015

While it looks like GQ readers may be going with Kanye again…sigh. You still have time to vote, by the way. In the meantime I thought we’d have a little fun of our own. Our idea of best dressed is slightly different it seems.

Here are our top five dapperly dressed dudes for 2015:

1. Justin Theroux

Always a bit of a style rebel but we love him.

2. Eddie Redmayne

Slick suit style, double breasted or not.

3. Jeff Goldblum

No matter what the dress code, he nails it every time.

4. Idris Elba

Can anyone rock a suit like this guy? The answer is no.

5. Daniel Craig

He wins our vote for best casual dresser.

So, leave your thoughts in the comments. Do you agree with any of these? Have your own list? I would love to hear from you.

3 Shirt Style Tricks to Appear Thinner

When ordering a custom dress shirt with us, I often advise that a few styling option tips can go a long way. You may have always ordered a wide spread collar because you like they way your colleague looks in it. What if another option could help you appear thinner? Here are three small tricks to help you when you place your next order with us.

1. Get a shirt that truly fits.

Of course you should make sure the shirt fits in the chest and waist  but has it occurred to you that the sleeve fullness of your shirt can also create the illusion that you are larger or smaller than you truly are?

2. Try a hidden button front style.

We refer to it as a “fly front” as in the fly on your pants. The buttons are hidden behind an extra strip of fabric.  That crisp clean look down the front of your shirt can assist in making you appear thinner. Plus it just looks great!

3. Choose a point collar with a vertical stripe.

A point collar is a go-to for all face shapes as it typically works for everyone. It elongates the face a bit which will help you appear slimmer. A vertical stripe assists in the thinner illusion.

Now put them altogether by ordering a custom dress shirt with us! Get started here. Dress Well! Be Well! -Meghan Henley Follow me on Twitter @BestCustomShirt

Star Wars Inspired Menswear

As I looked back at the trending menswear for Fall and Winter 15/16 and forward to Spring 2016, I couldn’t help but notice a few things that seemed to hint at the Star Wars Phenomenon. So has the menswear force been awakened?

Most of the items were outerwear like shearling coats, leather bombers, and vests. Let’s take a look at some I think just about anyone can pull off.

On the pricier side, Matchless in London has launched it’s Star Wars inspired coats such as these beauties.

The Han Solo

The Skywalker

If the price tag is too high on those (like most of us) check these out from Ultimate Apparel

The Han Solo Force Awakens Bomber

How about vests? Han really had use for all those pockets.

This wool vest by Filson is a great addition to a button down oxford.

So have you seen the movie yet? I’m geeking out with my family tonight. No spoilers please!

Is There a Christmas Sweater That is NOT Ugly?

Maybe it doesn’t have a Christmas tree or angels on it but we believe there is such a thing as a NON-Ugly Christmas Sweater.

Like these by JCREW

Or these by Brooks Brothers

Men’s Casual Vests and Formal Vests

Vests. Waistcoats. Whatever you call them they can be both elegant and useful. Today we will talk about how to wear them in two different situations.

Going casual? The vest can be added warmth throughout the colder months and can be added into most all of your casual wear looks.

Casual Style Tip 1:  Leave the bottom button undone and perhaps even the top.

Casual Style Tip 2 : Mix up textures and patterns of your shirt, vest, and tie if you choose to wear one.

Sprucing up a bit? In a dressier situation the vest can be added to create a more modern or even classic look.

Dressy Style Tip 1: Match colors and even the fabric type of vest to the coat.

Dressy Style Tip 2: Keep the angle or curve of the collar consistent with that of the vest.

Restyle Your Button Down

Looking for some great ways to layer your button down dress shirt with style? Or even your favorite polo? Mixing up sweater styles and patterns is the way to keep your favorite casual dress shirt looking fresh this season.

1. Mix up your patterns: Layering a white sweater with a stripe over a brightly colored check or plaid will keep you looking sharp.

Tip: Make sure the stripes are a neutral color.  He wears a navy stripe which goes with just about everything.

2. Add a blazer and pocket square to your favorite chambray button down.

3. Class up your hoodie. Who says you have to wear a tee underneath your favorite drawstring sweatshirt or hoodie?

Tip: Make sure the hoodie fits you well. No bulky sweatshirts, Gents.

4. Or class it up with a tie and preppy cricket sweater.

Can Men Wear Winter White?

Winter white is a great option for staying in style during the colder months. There are some tricks to pull it off, though. Here are some of our thoughts.

1. Choose a heavier white fabric like white denim or wool for pants.  We also love an off-white wool sweater or cardigan. No lightweight white linen please. For one thing, you will feel the winter chill roll through the fabric but it will also appear out of place in freezing temps.

2. Generally we don’t advise layering too many dark fabrics on your upper body while keeping things white and light on the lower portion. It is hard to pull off. So how is it this guy looks so dapper, you ask?

Simple, he added a solid colored shirt with a white collar. I might have chosen a neutral toned coat instead of navy, myself.

3. Try a speckled “whitish” sweater on top to look and feel cozy. It isn’t exactly winter white. Perhaps it is even better.

4. Adding neutrals to the rest of the body helps to create a soft minimalist style with a pair of crisp white chinos.

What is so great about white pants? For one thing, you usually don’t wear them often throughout the year so they will likely stay in tact if you find a nice durable pair.
