We rarely put much thought into our dress sock color or style until recently, am I right? But suddenly we began seeing the Italians sporting dress socks in stripes of orange and blue and eventually, we became enamored with them ourselves. It’s a great way to just catch someone’s attention when you cross your legs.
When choosing your new fancy-pants dress socks, keep two things in mind.
1. Choose socks made of mostly natural fibers. Avoid the 100% polyester socks. Ew.
2. Look for brands that have a moisture wicking guarantee. This will not only absorb the sweat but will pull it to the outer surface to keep your feet dry.
And now our top 2 choices for the Best Men’s Dress Socks out there….
You have plenty of prep-time left before February 14th to make it the best Valentine’s date she has ever experienced. Here are some great tips to get you in gear.
1. Clear the stubble.
If you have a full beard, make sure it is well-groomed. Unless it is a mature amount of stubble, go with a clean shave. No 5 o’clocks for this occasion, Gents.
2. Moisturize those lips.
If you are expecting a kiss at the end of the evening, make sure she isn’t kissing cracked or chapped lips. Start moisturizing your lips today and they will be in great shape by Valentine’s. It doesn’t take more than the investment of petroleum jelly which is found in every drug store.
3. Get your fragrance on.
Some of the hottest scents right now are from Le Labo. These earthy and addictive scents are unisex. I haven’t met a person yet who didn’t want a second or third sniff.
4. Update your undies.
Pick up some new underwear. Again, not a major investment but may pay off more than you know.
5. Moisturize your face.
If you want her hands in your hair, you will need to make sure your face smooth and inviting as well. There are tons of great moisturizers out there for men but you could start with what’s likely in your kitchen. Coconut oil or almond oil works well. Be sure to try out your moisturizer now to ensure you won’t have any sort of reaction on the big day.

No matter how far off the rails the runways sometimes go…
…thank the style gods that we seem to always return to the classics. Although they may not be the hottest trend, the vintage styles seem to reappear time and time again. Let’s pay special attention to the ones that have gained popularity again in the last 5 years.
Bowties and the suspenders.
Whether they are worn quite dapperly or in a younger more “hipster” way, the bowtie and the suspenders are everywhere. Luckily, this allows the style to be dressed up or down.
Again, this style reoccurrence can be dressed up or down. Wear it with or without a tie. It’s a great way to stay warm during the chilly days to come.
The double breasted suit.
It’s reemerged with a vengeance and we are so glad it has come back. I think this one will be around for quite some time. Now is the time to invest in a double breasted suit.
What other vintage styles have you seen return? What would you like to see?
I get this question all the time. When customers see our option to style their very own casual shirt or dress shirt, they are stumped. What is the difference anyway?
First of all, think of the difference between a dress shirt and a tuxedo shirt. If you opt for a dress shirt, you won’t have the wing tip collar as a choice. You will only get the options available in most dress shirts.
A casual shirt will have the option of a camp style collar, for example. Think about a Tommy Bahama style shirt with no fusing (the stiff stuff) in the collar or the cuff. I usually recommend your casual long sleeve flannel shirts to be styled without the stiffness as well. It can be styled with a button down collar or even a hidden button down. If you are wearing it with chinos, it is likely a casual shirt. A shirt with a French cuff is not considered casual.
A dress shirt can be worn with or without a tie. It will be paired with a suit or at least a pair of wool or wool-blend slacks. Most corporate office environments call for a dress shirt. I recommend avoiding a button down collar on a dress shirt but am okay with the hidden button down collar. Just be aware that you can see the buttons underneath the collar if you look for them. A dress shirt will have the option of a French cuff but can be worn with a button cuff or convertible cuff as well. A convertible cuff buttons for closure but also has the option to wear the cufflinks if you like.
We often confuse the situation by wearing a tie with a casual shirt. Hint: The fact that he is wearing it with jeans and a button down collar in my book classifies this as a casual shirt.

Dressing warm in the winter can be a breeze with layering a nice undershirt beneath your custom dress shirt. We have tons of well made and interesting new fabrics in stock. Currently we are seeing a lot of checks and plaids like the beautiful styles below.
It’s easy to mix a pattern tie with a plaid or check shirt as long as the base colors remain the same. Try a fun colorful suit and add a matching pocket square again in the same base color scheme.
We know you like your shirt to fit like a dream, as any guy does, but have you ever thought about taking the style of your shirt more into consideration?
Perhaps you like a button down or a hidden button down collar. Perhaps you like the spread collar. Whether or not the collar matters to you, we recommend you try out different styles once in a while to keep things fresh.
Flannel shirts are a great way to add another layer of warmth and they don’t always have to scream “lumberjack”. Most often we see plaids and checks in flannel shirting fabrics but were you aware your solid colored dress shirts can also be made in flannel? This tan shirt was styled with a button down collar and he chooses a high V-neck sweater and just a hint of the tie knot. Well done, sir.

Runways of floral prints, silks, and lace… Sounds like a women’s showcase of feminine fashions for 2016, right? Not necessarily. This Spring according to the male models wearing suits by Gucci, Dolce Gabbana, Armani, and Burberry the trends in menswear seems to be gearing toward delicate and feminine fabrics.
The shirts are lacy.
The suits are floral.
The fabrics are silky.
Now…how can you use this trend in real life?
How about a silk floral tie? Two trends in one!
Lace though? I am thinking it is going to be hard to pull off.
The dreaded question: Should you wear brown shoes or black? Whether it is casual or dress, we often have a hard time determining what color shoe we should go with. Here are some helpful hints that will hopefully point you in the right direction.
1. Begin with the color of the clothing itself. If you are gearing toward mostly neutrals, the easiest option is brown. If you are in a gray or charcoal suit, the best choice would be black.
2. If wearing blue, things can get a little confusing. I recommend a black shoe with a darker navy or bold blue suit. If you are wearing a navy pant and sky blue dress shirt without a tie, try the more casual brown shoe.
3. Are you adding vibrant colors to your outfit such as red or purple? Generally these bold choices should lead you to the black shoe.
4. Ask yourself what belt seems appropriate? It is best to match your shoes to your belt when possible.
5. If you are wearing a lighter neutral suit, maybe try the black shoe and belt for a bold statement. If the dress is more casual, (sans suit), choose the brown.
When in doubt, ask someone. That is what the mirror selfie is for after all, right?
